What most people don’t understand about imagination is that nothing is ever going to be original. You may feel like something is similar to something else and, when it boils down to it, you’ll realize that it is. I get reviews and emails from people that tell me that my book character Vanessa Pheros from Menta-Life is similar to different movie characters (like Richard Riddick) or video game characters (like Rubi Malone or Commander Shepard) all the time. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because they’re not 100% identical. Take Star Wars and Star Trek, just because they’re both in space with captain’s chairs, doesn’t mean their stories are the same; because they fight different species doesn’t make them a copycat. If you look at anyone’s work, you will find something unoriginal so my point is, don’t let that discourage you. Good writing and Happy 2017!
